FestiGals – Forging Friendships, Making Memories, & Celebrating Sisterhood!

City: New Orleans, Louisiana

Date: June 19-22, 2014

Attendees: 1,200

The challenge:

Our challenge, like any non-profit, arises from obtaining funding and manpower to execute the four-day event. Unlike for-profit events, we cannot simply call, book vendors and pay the bill. Media coverage is crucial and event promotion, which can be expensive, unless media partnerships are established. We rely heavily on sponsorship, donations and volunteers for the success of the event.

Our plan:

Conceiving and executing a dynamic, fun, safe and enriching weekend celebration in which women can relax, enjoy high quality special events and explore the rich heritage of New Orleans while contributing to a cause that benefits and empowers women. The weekend included luncheons with inspirational keynote speakers; seminars on health, beauty and lifestyle topics; a day devoted to each woman’s personal and professional development; fabulous cocktail parties; tours and excursions; a fun run “The Stiletto Sprint”; and a New Orleans style second line parade. Our creativity and attention to detail made a great impact not only on the attendees but on the local tourism industry and economy.

Our solution:

To secure the money and staffing we needed, we diligently solicited donations from many of the vendors we contract for our paid events. We spent time building relationships with community groups who can assist us with a surplus of volunteers. To help promote the event, we have partnered up with the New Orleans Metropolitan Convention and Visitors Bureau and the New Orleans Tourism Marketing Corporation. Local print, television, and radio have contributed advertising space and air time to get the word out. This enables us to provide an exclusive “once-in-a-lifetime” experience that helps build bonds between mothers, daughters, sisters, friends and co-workers. The women who attended felt a sense of camaraderie and felt empowered by the takeaways from their weekend.
