Society for Human Resource Management
Voluntourism Project
Accent on Arrangements
Gentilly Neighborhood Neutral Grounds, New Orleans
June 27-28, 2009
Attendees: 500
The Challenge
- To incorporate an impactful event and to ensure that all 500 participants could contribute to at the same time without space being an issue.
- Narrow down a list of possible projects while accounting for a job that would impact the community.
- To account for the weather. Summer heat and tropical humidity were a challenge.
Our Plan
We were hired to conceptualize, research, plan, execute and oversee SHRM's voluntourism program activity. Our job was to connect the volunteers to New Orleans in a way that would give back to the community while they learned what local residents and neighborhoods were experiencing during the recovery time.
Our Solution
"Accent on Arrangements did an excellent job in every aspect of the conference. The staff was very knowledgeable and they were incredibly responsible and helpful."
- Lauren Seplow, SHRM
Beautifying a space and sharing a bowl of gumbo with locals, these volunteers witnessed the hearts of people who make up this great city. Knowing they played a role in the rebuilding of not only the city but lives, thanks to our team, marked the gift of voluntourism.
