The memory...  The best times of my life are when I get to be with all three kids.  They’re all growed up now, and living in several pockets of the country, so being all together (okay, with my husband Robert, too) is my happy place.

The time of day...  I love the morning before things get noisy.  Love sitting outside and listening to the world wake up.

The smell... I love the smell of a fire pit with piñon wood.  Transports me.

The book... I love anything by Barbara Kingsolver.  She needs to come out with a new one.   Love Maya Angelou, Pearl S. Buck, Dave Eggers, John Irving, Jonathan Safran Foer, Shel Silverstein, Dr. Seuss and William Shakespeare.  Don’t pin me down!

The pet... I love my dogs Brooklyn and Carson.  Both are adopted from boxer rescues and are as precious as the day is long!

The exercise... Not so much.  Oh, does martini shaking count? Triceps?  I do love long walks discovering new places, though. The hills in Seattle do work the backs of the legs.

The TV show... Really loving This is Us, because there is a lot that I relate to.  Also Modern Family.  Because there is also a lot I relate to . . .

The music... I love the music of the 60s and the 70s.  White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane is on my shuffle.  Three different versions.  I was a disco kid, too, so don’t judge.

The necessity... I’m going to say my husband, Robert Hartner on this one.  I run a million miles an hour and he keeps everything in between the lines.  I don’t know how he does it or how he puts up with me.  Love that man.

The luxury... And a guilty pleasure.  I have a housekeeper twice a month.  There.  I’ve said it out loud.  It just makes me so happy not to have to dust.

The piece of advice... Try to have a big belly laugh at least once a day.  It’s good medicine.  If you can laugh until tears are pouring out of your eyes, even better.

The friend... In July 2000 in Dallas, a very pregnant Californian named Lawra Duy sauntered into my office looking for some space for several events she needed to plan in November.  She sat down in my office and we talked for 3 hours.  And nothing about business.  We decided we would need to reschedule to talk about that.  We have been best friends ever since.  Our favorite ritual is chocolate and Veuve Clicquot on New Year’s Day.

The treat... So, I’m married to a chef, so I eat very well every day.  Unfortunately for my waistline, I am a fan of many treats.

The movie... The Birdcage.  I have watched it so much and I love it more every time.  “Armand, why don’t you put me in your show? Are you afraid of my Guatemalan-ness? My natural heat?  You’re afraid that I’m too primitive to be on the stage with your little estrogen-Rockettes.” ~Hank Azaria.

The hobby and The vice... Maybe this is a hobby and a vice.  I judge high school musicals for the state of Washington, which means that I see between 15 and 25 high school musicals a year, nominate them for awards and write feedback on every element of the show.  This is where the vice part comes in . . .  I have an addiction to those precious thespians leaving it all on the stage.  My husband has been known to say “I liked the show, but too much singing!”  Poor guy.

The virtue... I think my virtue is a quick wit.  But also humility.

The vacation... I never like to go to the same place twice because there are so many wonderful and amazing places to discover.  Some of my favorite places, though, are Italy, Santa Fe and Scotland.
