The Passions Behind the People
Each month we will be sharing the passions behind the people in the DMC Network...
This month the spotlight is on Lauren Manuel, DeSilva Meeting Consultants, a DMC Network Company in Hawai’i.
The memory...
A full moon, sitting at the Mauna Lani Resort at an event called, “Twilight at Kalahuipua’a” when my friend asked me to get up and dance a hula for the Hawaiian style “talk story” event for 200+ people. I got up, danced a hula and when it ended, my boyfriend got up on stage and asked me to marry him. My friends sang our first song and we danced with 100 other couples under the moonlight, ocean front at the very spot we were married.
The time of day...
Just after sunset at the beach…when the coconut trees cast a shadow on the ocean and the sky above Mauna Kea Mountain behind you is painted in purple and pink.
The activity...
Casting a line on shore with my fishing pole next to my boys and husband, waiting for a fish to bite!
The smell...
All of the Jasmine family flowers in my garden in full bloom…gardenias, pikake and tiare flowers!
The alternate job…
Owning my own luau featuring the local talented dancers, musicians and chefs preparing local cuisine gathered fresh from the ocean and farms on the island. I’d offer a kupuna (senior citizen) day & keiki (children) day for community members to come for free.
The feeling…
Dancing hula – telling a story with your hands, feet and body; allowing myself to let go of everything and become one with the song.
The accessory…
my pua (flower) behind my left ear. (It’s like a wedding ring, left side = taken, right side = single!)
The snack…
Freshly cut and chilled mangoes & lychee during season in the summer!
The place...
My Grandparent’s beach house on the North Shore of Oahu in Haleiwa. Getting up early to breathe in the ocean air and ending the day with a walk on the beach to watch the sun set into the clear water.
The quote…
“E Lei Ke Aloha No Na Kau a Kau” – Aloha Today, Tomorrow, Always
The hobby…
Hula, Fishing, Cooking, Gardening & Tennis.
The friend…
Leabert – my husband, best friend and partner in life.
The color…
Blue; just like the ocean & sky.
The vice…
Leabert’s crisy pork with tomatoes & onions. I can’t stop!
The virtue…
Treat others the way you want to be treated…ALOHA ALWAYS!
